Understanding the Theme
The theme of this website is the color maroon. Maroon signifies the color of dried blood, as the blood of the people killed in this rebellion, southern slaveholders and executed slaves, will never be washed off the hands of the nation. Their blood remains a reminder of America's dark past and our history soaked in bloodshed from this rebellion, the Civil War, and all other slavery related conflicts.
The website's shades of red represent the uniform color of the blood that runs in everyone's bodies, differentiating between no one and serving as proof of our shared humanhood, all the while reaffirming the blood oaths taken to reform this nation through battles and wars.
The folded American flags that are overlayed in a red tint signify the many "Americas" we have had to go through to finally get where we are today. The America we have today is not perfect, but there is still more growing we have to do as a country. Each flag tries to hide behind the others, so as to try and hide our dark past, but the hints of red still cover it, never allowing us to forget the wrongs we did as a country.
